Ongoing projects
I´m the Principal Investigator (PI) of research projects ReefNets and FindRayShark and CO-PI of Lifeline,, that brings together 22 scientists from 14 different institutions in Portugal, Spain, Hungary, Denmark and UK.
Currently, I also chair the ICES COMEDA working group.
I worked in several projects and working groups related with fish ecology and conservation such as patterns of biodiversity (mainly taxonomic and functional dimensions), biogeography, relationships between fish biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, resilience of marine assemblages and ecological networks as well as the multiple effects of protection (MPAs) on their recovery and the development of MPA Networks.
ReefNets
Using ecological networks to predict marine ecosystem responses to human threats.
ICES WG COMEDA
Chair of the ICES WG COMEDA:“Comparative Analyses between European Atlantic and Mediterranean marine ecosystems to move towards an Ecosystem-based Approach to Fisheries”
FindRayShark
Applying innovative technologies to the conservation of rays and sharks
FishBiodiversity
Biodiversity, function, source-sink balance and services of fish communities in estuaries: modeling patterns and relationships, and predicting responses in view of natural and anthropogenic induced changes (PTDC/MAR/117119/2010; PI: Dr. Rita Vasconcelos,
